How things have changed

I stumbled back upon my old blog due to my sister having a self proclaimed midlife crisis in which she started blogging.  I went to comment on a post of hers and boom there it was!  Now I’m not a good writer and I don’t have much to say but it was fun to re-read those old posts from 9 years ago. It took me back to our bird owning, bar hopping, finically irresponsible, orchid obsessed days.  The birds went to live with an old lady in the North end because we moved into a 800 sq ft. apartment and they were way to loud.  We got a second greyhound before moving into that tiny apartment, we lost both the dogs this past year.  Carol and Dorian broke up and we lost touch.  The orchids are dead and we now have a budget.

When I turned 30 I was a little sad to close that chapter of my life.  It was rocky at times but I loved the carelessness and spontaneity of those years!  Every day felt like anything was possible and I was always up for the next adventure. I remember waking up Saturday mornings and Peter and I would lay in bed googling what the city had to offer that weekend and off we would go to whatever caught our interest and evenings always revolved around meeting up with friends.   Now I feel tired when I  wake up and and spontaneity doesn’t bod well with a 5 month olds nap schedule. I also work every weekend which limits my social life.   I’m not saying I’m not enjoying my new season of life because I absolutely am but when I talk to some of my older nieces in their late teens early 20’s I just really want them to understand the power of those years.  That energy you have and adaptability slowly shift  along with your social life so embrace that freedom and energy while you have it!  Go see the world, meet people, experience new things, because some day you might want to settle down and start a family and that’ll be what your energy goes towards.

I can't stop buying Orchids

It's true I really can't stop buying orchids....I now have 4 orchids two of which are rare hybrids and cost a ridiculous amount of money for a house plant. I bought my newest one last week. It is a purple and white phalaenopsis. The hybrid plants are also phalaenopsis but they are bright blue in color. My fourth orchid and the one that I have had the longest is a oncidium. I'm really hoping that the oncidium is going to bloom again soon! I managed to re-pot that one without killing it and it has a lot of new growth on it.

I can't believe I'm sitting in my room blogging about my house plants on a Friday night....I must confess that I'm really not feeling well tonight and maybe that's the reason for my lack of socializing....or maybe this is what happens when you are about to turn 25 you realize your house plants are more rewarding then bar hopping every weekend....I'm also feeling committed to my budget currently and this activity is costing me nothing....

I really do find my house plants to be rewarding. They are much less needy then Nikko and much quieter then the birds. I think I just like making them grow. I would really like to get a spray bottle to mist the leaves of my fern I think it needs more humidity, it's growth seems stunted.

Well to jazz up my Friday night I'm going to go attempt to bake a pumpkin and then make pumpkin bars.

Weekend Ramblings

I finally got Mr. Fit back!!!! 3 weeks and $1300 later he is looking fit and fabulous. I've learned that car accidents suck and hope to never get into another one! I applied for a new job this week really hope to hear back from it...It's at Melrose Wakefield Hospital in labor and delivery!!! But I'm not getting my hopes up that I'll even hear back from them. The birds seem to all be getting along well we are going on a week of having Drizzle. Yesterday I took Nikko to the nice dog park and Newton and meet Carole and Dorian who brought Piper. Nikko tried to play with Piper (who is a miniature dachshund) I was so scared the whole time he was going to trample her! I'm so bummed the weekend is almost over and I haven't done hardly anything fun except make banana bread today. O well that's what happens when you have to dump a lot of money into fixing your car!!!

When Old People Dye Their Hair

Today, I'm on my way to see a "problem" patient who I had been attempting to visit since the middle of last week and I was contemplating how I just never know what I'm going to find when I walk into someones home. I was interested to meet my patient's wife who had a very distinct, some might say man-ish voice and envisioned my patient to have that sweet old man look about him. I parked and took the elevator up as I stepped out a 4'11" elderly gentleman greeted me with jet black curly hair. Needless to say I spent a lot of time staring at his hair but really got me was he also chose to dye his eyebrows jet black too. It all came together when later in the visit he told me he used to be a hairdresser. Here's my thought for the day, if you are over 65 years old you really should think twice about dying your hair and eyebrows jet black, it's so obviously not natural.

Disappointingly the wife with the man voice was not home.

3 is Company

So here I am sitting in the living room watching Jersey Shore, wondering why I can't get paid to party (I'm fun too!) and keeping in an eye on the new bird....
This is what I learned today, both Peter and I are complete suckers for animals. We should not be going to PetSmart together. It was just suppose to be a quick trip to get Nikko nails done and the birds wings clipped. Then it turned into a game of "if we were to get another bird which one would we choose." Now here I sit with a new bird named Drizzle.
Had a good weekend...here are the highligths:
Trip to the zoo
drinks with carole and dorain
started some spices
got a new roomate
and of course drizzle!
Back to work tomorrow...
